Depending on the game, there are several ways to compute the scores.

• Chess, reversi, connect4 and battleship are using Elo ranking
• Most of the other games just compute the average score per game or per round

It's a little tricky to explain it here. Make a google search, there are many articles talking about it.

There are only a few differences between the official Elo ranking and the one used on the playroom :

• The coefficient K is different and varies depending on the game. It varies between 16 and 40.
• By default, a new player simply starts automatically with 1400 points; the official ranking do something weird to evaluate entering players I even don't understand myself.
• There is no ceiling in calculating the difference between two players
• The ranking is continuous, i.e. float precision instead of integers
• The system is extrapoled to continue working in case of a game with 3 or 4 players
